Memory Lane

Where it all began — the story of Wilby High School and the Class of 1997.

1920

Year Wilby opened its doors on Grove Street, Waterbury

A School Built for the Future

Named in honor of Stephen William Wilby, the beloved Crosby High School principal who passed in 1917, Wilby High School opened in May 1920 as one of the finest school buildings in New England. Originally designed as a commercial and business school, Wilby evolved over the decades into a comprehensive high school serving the north end of Waterbury. In 1978, the school moved to its current home at 568 Bucks Hill Road — the campus where the Class of 1997 made their memories.

Wildcats Pride

The Wilby Wildcats have always been more than a mascot — they represent the spirit, determination, and community of every student who walked these halls. Green and white forever.

The Emerald

Since 1964, The Emerald has been the voice of Wilby High School. From the halls of Grove Street to Bucks Hill Road, this student newspaper chronicled the stories, achievements, and spirit of every graduating class — including ours.

Class of '97 Legacy

In 1997 — our graduation year — Wilby's MCJROTC program claimed the national championship in drill competition, cementing the Class of 1997 as part of one of the most decorated years in Wilby history. Go Wildcats!
